A. Marten River is a small community located in the District of Nipissing, Ontario, Canada. The area is full of pristine connecting lakes and rivers teaming with Pickerel/Walleye, Northern Pike, Bass, Lake Trout, Whitefish and Perch for the avid fishing enthusiast and Bear, Moose, Small Game and Birds for the hunters. Q. What do I need to pack for my vacation?
A. You should considering bringing the following.
- Warm comfortable clothing, good hiking shoes, rain gear, seasonal clothing, sunscreen and insect repellent
- Food, water, drinks, toiletries, flashlight, outdoor safety gear(check with your Tourist Operator for details on linens, towels, water that may be provided).
- Check Ontario regulations re boating, fishing or hunting licenses necessary to your particular vacation
- Bring a smile and great attitude, this should be your best vacation yet!
Q. Can I get my fishing / hunting license in Marten River?
A. Yes, there are a number of license issuers in the area, including many lodges and camps.
Q. What type of vacation equipment can I rent?
A. Boat & motors, canoes from local operators and lodges. ATV and snowmobile rentals from North Bay and Sturgeon Falls dealers.
Q. Can I get bus, trail or air service to my vacation destination?
A. Yes, many operators offer pick up at the North Bay or Temagami bus depots. Train/bus station in North Bay and Jack Garland airport in North Bay.
Q. OK, what’s the story on the Marten River fish?
A. This 21’ Pickerel (formed out of newspaper and fiberglass) can be found on the west side of HWY 11 in Marten River and can’t be missed! It was made in the 1960’s for a tourist attraction and the story goes that the tail of the big fish used to be a canoe!
Q. Where can I shop in the area?
A. Marten River offers Trapper Trading Post with groceries, LCBO outlet, Gas, Propane exchange, Gift shops, and Restaurant. For major grocery stores, we would recommend a half-hour trip to North Bay, Sturgeon Falls, or Temagami.
Q. How far is the hospital from Marten River?
A. The North Bay General Hospital is approximately 30 minutes. Ambulance is available through our 9-1-1 area service. Walk-in clinics in are also available in North Bay for non-emergency services.
Q. What is there to do in the area?
A. Visit the Logging Museum in the Marten River Provincial Park, North Bay and Sturgeon Falls Museums, Dionne Quints Museum, take the Dream Catcher Express train between Temagami and North Bay with the fall colours, cruise Lake Nipissing on the Chief Commanda (also offers dinner cruises with entertainment), live theatre at Capitol Centre and Nipissing Stage Company summer theatre, excellent Golf Courses, Lake Nipissing Waterfront with Heritage Carousel and Mini-Train, the popular World's Largest Book Store in Cobalt, and much more.

A. Yes, bush and logging roads provide excellent wilderness trail riding.
